Beat 3

Officer David Childs

June 2010

While out on patrol, I made three new beat contacts for the month of June.  My first Beat contact, Mr. Smith (pseudonym) approached my patrol unit as I patrolled down his street.   Mr. Smith stated that he wanted to remain anonymous but wanted to inform me of some narcotics activity that had been occurring nightly near his residence.  I advised Mr. Smith that I would not use his real name and that I would keep the information confidential.   I informed Mr. Smith that I would inform my fellow Officers and that we would keep a close eye on the location provided during the hours he specified.  Mr. Smith stated that initially he was reluctant to get involved because he has children and feared for their safety.  I thanked Mr. Smith and told him that it takes brave citizens to fight crime in their community.  I told Mr. Smith if more of the residents of Richmond stood up to crime instead of looking the other way how much better their community would be.  I advised Mr. Smith to contact me if he gets any further information.  I made contact with my second Beat contact, Mr. Marco Rodriguez, late one evening when I observed his car windows had been left in the down position.  I advised Mr. Rodriguez that it was not safe to leave his vehicle unsecured.  Mr. Rodriquez thanked me and advised that he had forgotten to roll his windows up earlier in the evening.  I asked Mr. Rodriguez if he had any issues that I could help him with.  Mr. Rodriguez stated that only issue he had was with cars blocking the roadway near his house.  Mr. Rodriguez advised the cars involved belong to the workers that were currently remodeling a house near his residence.  I advised Mr. Rodriguez to contact the Richmond Police Department when the roadway is obstructed.  I gave Mr. Rodriguez a business card and advised him to contact me if he needed further assistance.  My third contact was Mr. Charles Ewing Jr.  I stopped to talk with Mr. Ewing late one night.  I introduced myself and asked Mr. Ewing if he had an issues or concerns.  Mr. Ewing advised that he did not have any issues or concerns at this time.  While talking with Mr. Ewing I observed a blue Cadillac on his property that met the criteria of a junk vehicle.  I asked Mr. Ewing if the Cadillac was his and he advised that it belonged to his son Mr. Jamail Ewing.  I asked Mr. Ewing if his son was home and he stated that he was.  Mr. Jamail Ewing was issued a warning for his blue Cadillac.

I once again removed illegally posted signs from telephone poles that advertised the Olivarez Fence Company.   I also removed several garage sale signs that were posted throughout the city.   I issued two junk vehicle warnings in the month of June.  Both of the individuals corrected the violation within ten days of being warned.

I made contact with October Jackson on 06/30/10 at his residence.  I also made contact with Mr. Clarence Davidson on 06/30/10.  Both Mr. Jackson and Mr. Davidson are registered sex offenders that reside in my Beat.  Both individuals are in compliance as required by law.
